VENUE CHANGE: We have a lot of interest in this event--a clear sign that our community needs healing. To accommodate a bigger group, we have changed the venue to Mt. Baker Lofts Community Room, 2915 Rainier Ave. S., Seattle WA 98144.
Since we first sent out this invitation, yet another injustice has been done to the Black community--another white officer, Daniel Pantaleo, has not been indicted for the death of an unarmed black man, Eric Garner. For this to come down less than a week after Mike Brown's murderer was also exculpated is nothing less than an outrage. Zenyu will host a special Healing Ceremony and Meditation to honor Eric Garner, Mike Brown, and all black lives that have been lost. This special Healing Ceremony will be open to all members of our communities and will be held on Monday, December 15, 2014 from 7pm-9pm at Mt. Baker Lofts Community Room. Doors will open at 6:30pm.
As a community, our hearts are broken but not confused. Though enraged at such blatant injustices, these outcomes are not a surprise given this country's legacy of institutionalized racism, violence and terror against Black folks. It was only a year and a half ago when we gathered together under similar circumstances after the acquittal of Trayvon Martin's murderer. It was as true then as it is now-- we need each other. Let us come together as Beloved Community to mourn, to hurt, to heal, and to send out our most loving intentions to Eric Garner's and Mike Brown’s familes and all young black people and people of color living daily with racism and violence. Let us express our outrage, let us call out to the Power of the Universe for a healing justice.
Please join us for this special evening of healing meditation, encouragement and rebuilding of strength. Christine and April will be joined once by the amazing artist-teacher, Christa Bell, to guide us through a grieving and healing ceremony. Suggested donation is $5-20. All proceeds will go directly to Hands Up United, a Ferguson-based activist organization seeking justice for Mike Brown and the end of police brutality.
